3.58 Deuteronomy -- The Curses of Disobedience
Whereas Israel's obedience would bring blessings, disobedience made Israel liable to God's curses. These are spelled out in great detail. Most of chap 28 is a list of the punishments of God.
a. total destruction (Deut 6:15, Deut 28:63)
Like the nations the Lord destroyed before you, so you will be destroyed for not obeying the Lord your God (Deut 8:20).
b. drought (Deut 11:16-7)
c. lack of offspring, lack of prosperity (Deut 28:16-18, Deut 28:37-42)
d. confusion, rebuke, sudden ruin (Deut 28:20)
e. pestilence, heat, drought (Deut 28:21-24)
f. defeat by enemies (Deut 28:25-26)
g. disease, madness, blindness (Deut 28:27-28, Deut 28:35, Deut 28:59-61)
h. theft, bereavement, expropriation (Deut 28:30-34)
i. subjection to a foreign nation (Deut 28:36, Deut 28:43-44)
j. a byword among the peoples (Deut 28:37)
k. siege and cannibalism (Deut 28:49-57)
l. exile, return to Egypt (Deut 28:64-68)
And the final result:
He will put an iron yoke on your neck until he has destroyed you (Deut 28:48).
