2.27 Return to Bethel

God told Jacob to go to Bethel, the place where He first revealed Himself to Jacob on his way to Haran.  Here God met him and spoke to him (Gen 35).

         a.  his name was changed to Israel ("he struggles with God")
         b.  nations and kings will come from him
         c.  his descendants will inherit the land promised to Abraham and Isaac

Soon after this, Israel's last son, Benjamin, was born, and Rachel died in childbirth.  Isaac also died (at least 2 decades after Jacob stole the blessing of the firstborn!).  Esau and Jacob came together to bury him (Gen 35:29).  It was their last recorded meeting.
